Daily seva does not need to be elaborate. What matters is that it is done with love and at a steady rhythm. Here is a simple routine many families follow at home.

Morning

  • Waking (mangala): ring the bell softly, open the curtain and greet Thakurji.
  • Snan: bathe the idol with clean water, or panchamrit on special days, then dry gently with a soft cloth.
  • Poshak: dress Thakurji in a fresh poshak suited to the weather.
  • Shringar: add the mukut, mala, bansuri and any jewellery, then a small tilak.
  • Bhog: offer milk, makhan-mishri or fruit, then do aarti.

Midday and evening

Offer the midday bhog, and in the evening refresh the shringar, light a diya and do the evening aarti.

Night

For shayan, remove the heavier shringar, change into a light night poshak and settle Thakurji in the bed or jhula with a little milk nearby.

A tip on poshak

Keep two or three poshak in rotation: light cotton for summer, soft velvet or woollen for winter, and a festive one set aside for special days.
