How to care for poshak and shringar

Good care keeps a poshak bright and the shringar sparkling for many festivals. A few habits make all the difference.
Washing poshak
- Hand wash in cool water with a mild liquid detergent. Never wring; press the water out gently.
- Poshak with heavy zari, sequins or stone work should only be spot cleaned with a damp cloth.
- Dry in the shade. Direct sun fades colours and dulls zari.
Storing poshak
- Fold each poshak flat and wrap it in a soft cotton or muslin cloth.
- Keep them in a dry box away from damp walls. A few cloves or neem leaves help keep insects away.
Mukut, mala and jewellery
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth after use; avoid water on metal and stone work.
- Store each piece separately so stones do not scratch one another.
- Keep mukut upright or in their own box so the shape is not bent.
